One True Love-sick!

So my immune system has decided to break down again. I’m fine, but I’ve been bedridden for the past 2 days because of a fever that reaches 42C. It’s UP Fair, and I’m in bed - well, in front of the computer to fulfill my Blogathon duties - and it’s unfair! Huhu! Sad, pathetic me. To not notice the dragging hours, I’ve been reading an autographed book by Bo Sanchez, whom I’ve met at the Blog Parteeh last month, called How To Find Your One True Love. I’m not much of a Christian1 but…

I chuckled through many pages, and agreed with most2. Such a delight to read! It’s not the usual Christian books that tell you “[to] wait for whomever God will give you”, or “you don’t have to find him for he will find you”, or “God will provide, so stay tuned, lounge around, blah blah blah” craps I’ve read in the past. It’s “Yes, God will provide, but take responsibility for your future! Do something! Make a choice!” This should be a wake-up call to those “over-spiritualists” who know nothing but to boast their faith in their God and leave everything3 up to Him, then bemoan the fact that they don’t seem to be getting anything. And most Christians I know shove their “faith” up my ass every time they think I do something wrong - like not going to church, for instance. Uh-huh. As I’ve always said, most of them are just a bunch of religious hypocrites. This might strike a cord or two, but I’m done with those stuffs I keep hearing from people. It’s annoying, really.

Anyway. I’m not done reading the book yet because I had to put it down every other 10 pages or so to take a nap4. My whole body feels like it’s on fire. Gaaahhhh…I hate it when this happens.

I hope Mr. Sanchez doesn’t mind me sharing an excerpt from the book. I find this part so hilarious that I laughed for a full minute.

When Prayer and Fasting Isn’t Enough

Let me be cruel here.
One guy I knew had an odor problem.
The underarm kind.
The one that hits you like a jackhammer and knocks you out cold.
Wham!
And for a few minutes, you see your whole life flash before you.
This guy came to me and said, “I’ve been praying that God give me a wife. But it seems that God isn’t listening5. You think I need to pray more?”
I told him (as I held my breath when I faced him), “Brother, I think you need something more than prayer.”
“I knew it!” he spoke sincerely, “prayer and fasting, right?”
I couldn’t hold my breath anymore, so before I spoke, I gasped through the side of my mouth. No luck. The atmosphere within a two-mile radius was already contaminated with high levels of toxicity. I tried my best to be as gentle as I could. I chose my words carefully…
I said, “You stink.”
He looked at me like a bewildered child. “I do?”
The next time I saw him, the stink was gone.
In a year’s time, he was courting someone. (I don’t know why it took that long. Perhaps it takes a year for the residue to disappear.) And in three years, they were married.
That man didn’t lack prayer. Or fasting.
That man lacked a deodorant.
Super, ultra, fierce, no-mercy, kick-butt, extra-strong deodorant.

Hehe, so yes. I suggest you buy the book, even if you’re not a Christian. Heck, I’m reading it! It’s fun, I promise.

10 Weird Facts About Myself

  • Whenever I use the bathroom to…meditate…, the first song that comes to my mind is Basil ValdezNgayon at Kailanman. Next is Valentine by Jim Brickman and Martina McBride. Don’t ask.
  • I can imitate the voices of Toni Braxton, Amy Lee, and Moonstar 88’s lead vocalist with hardly any effort (Such a pity that I don’t look like even one of them, hehe). Make me sing one of their songs, and I guarantee you a score of 100 in Magic Sing.
  • Whenever I stumble upon blog entries made by other bloggers, I make sure that I’ve read enough of the subject before I leave a comment. If a blogger has a WordPress problem that I don’t know the solution to, I’d try to find out about it just to help. And so obviously, I hate “heLLO! xOxO tC” comments. Go figure!
  • I can read and comprehend up to 7 thick books in 24 hours. Tried and tested many times. =) But I won’t be able to tell you the story because talking makes my mind go round and round.
  • When I’m an advocate of something, I can be passionate about it. Classic examples are the Boycott Nestlé campaign, and Copyright Infringement. And Politics.
  • I’m a hypocrite. I hate Copyright Infringement but I download music from Multiply. Hehe! But not the usual mainstream music, mind you. =) Support progressive artists!
  • I have what I like to call the R-defect. I can’t say the words with the letter r in them properly, and that includes my name. “What’s your name?” “Shari.” “Shawi?” “No, Shar-ri!” “Ahh, Shanee?” Ugh!
  • I always wish I was ill. With a serious disease like leukemia or something. Not contagious, but something that makes death inevitably sooner.
  • But when my grandmother and mother were diagnosed with cancer, I chickened out. I stopped wishing that for a couple of days. Then back to wishing I was dying again.
  • But when I found out that I have calcified granuloma in my lungs, meaning I have an inactive tuberculosis6, I was angry. I stopped wishing that wish again. Then back to wishing I was dying yet again.

Bonus Weird Fact: I’m weird. ^_^

I have never read that Bo Sanchez book. I should check it out sometime.

true, it’s not the usual inspirational book. sobrang cool!

  4. isley

good book. yeah, some people just wait for God’s blessings and it’s pathetic. Para sakin, you make your own life, and role ni God is to show what’s right and what’s wrong. lol. I dont have any reason to believe in God at pwede naman akong maging rational, but I dunno. I believe in him. alot. depende nadin siguro.

  5. Ellie

I liked that excerpt. Right on.

  6. Sherica

Hahahahaha voice of amy lee? nyay! hahahaha. :D cool.
and uh meditation on cr? fun fun heheheehehhe. ate i love the the,e.

  7. Aja Lapus

*haven’t read anything about being tagged*

I liked that excerpt. LOL It’s very straight to the point. Haha!

    Get well soon, Shawi! ROTFLMAO

  8. Aravis

That book sounds awesome. I want it too!

I’ve read several Christian books on love, and I love reading them. Very refreshing and actually the most romantic books I’ve yet to read. If you’re up to it try reading “When God Writes Your Love Story.” Very funny and kilig. :D

I hope I’m not one of those Christians you’re talking about. I try my best not to be. I really dislike how we can be stereotyped so easily because of stuck-up fanatics like them. :(

Anyway, my belief in love goes something like this: God will provide, but you also have to work. And that excerpt seems to have proven me right! XD

    Hope you get well soon!

  9. chezka

well love? you don’t need to wait for it, cuz it will be the one to make kusa papunta sau…

  10. Shari

    Lexie: You should. :)

Liz: You’ve finished it? Daya! Haha!

Isley: I’ve always believed that we must all respect everyone’s beliefs. :)

Ellie: Yeah, yeah. So is every part of the book.

Sherica: Love the what? Hehe…Medidate…Something that requires concentration. Harhar!

Aja: Hey, daya nito. Sige na, ngayon lang! You’ve been thinking of a blog topic, and now’s your chance!!! =( And heh, haven’t read anything about being tagged daw, eh pano mo nalamang tinag kita? Tag, you’re it! =D

Sige, gagaling na ako. Hintayin niyo ako. =p And what’s with the whole “Aja Lapus” thing? ^_^

Aravis: It is. Awesome. The book, I mean. =) I like some Christian books on love, but some also goes over the edge.

Hey. Do you force your belief on me? No? Do you hate me for not being a church-goer? No? Hmmm…So I don’t think you’re one of those Christians you’re talking about. *winks* I actually know a lot of Christians who solidly trust in God, and do everything in their power to help themselves. I respect and admire them. But the others I’m referring to? Grrrr. ^_^

Chezka: Errr…You lost me there. ^_^

I think during the first time I’ve commented on this site, I just pressed the down button to search for my name, URI, and email address. My Firefox form history returned my whole name—I really don’t care. Why would I still try to hide it when my domain name spells it out completely? As long as your site’s cookies are holding my name that way, I would waste time editing—as if those two seconds were really precious to me. :P

  13. Aja Lapus

Oops, please edit “I would waste time editing” to “I wouldn’t waste time editing” *tee-hee* Then maybe you could delete this comment. :D

  14. Shari

Aisha: Hehe, thanks. Imma go sleep after this.

Aja: I thought you’re doing some SEO moves, whatever that is nyahaha. *winks* =p

And you know I don’t ever edit nor delete a comment. Well, except for those profanities I’ve received in my last Pacman post. ^_^

Everyone else: Enjoy! Hope your week started out great. Imma sleep now; can’t stay online for long coz my head’s killing me.

  17. Sidney

Get well soon! I am happy to see that your 42°C fever don’t manage to get you down. You seem alive and kicking!

  18. Shari

Euri: I think you’re qualified. It’s the YOU-KNOW-WHAT that’s not. You know. *rolls eyes* You get what I mean, right? I’m sure Lexie, Aja, Christian, and others do. *winks* Anyway, I contacted first the administrator. But if I remember correctly, they accept Gcash, LandBank and Metrobank deposit. I just think it’d be easier for you because of Gcash. ^_^

Sidney: Always. *winks* Thanks for dropping by. Will ogle at your pictures soon. :D

  19. Rach

Hi Shari. Sorry to hear that you’re not feeling well. I’m sorry you had to miss your school fair. I hope you’ll get well soon.

Thanks for sharing that excerpt. It was really funny. There’s a nice message behind it. I guess sometimes, we should really tell someone the truth even though it hurts in order to make him aware of what’s really happening around him.

Thanks for sharing those interesting things about you. I’m sorry to hear about your condition (calcified granuloma). I hope it could easily be corrected through medicines. It’s sad to hear about your odd wish. I do hope that something inspiring will help you overcome it and make you yearn for the exact opposite. Take care!

    Thanks for visiting me earlier.

hmmm as a Christian myself, I believe in both “philosophy” - fate and choice.

Indeed, I believe that there is that one God’s Will for you, and if that one is the God’s will for your life, then everything will fall into place and together, you will be able to surpass all challenges and obstacles in life.

Trust me Shari, I didn’t “look” for my boyfriend right now, but I believe, God has given him to me and allowed all the circumstances in our lives to pass for us to meet and know each other. I experienced it firsthand, unlike those “theory” books out there who just tell stories but never really experienced it in their lives.

If I’m about to write a book about all the marvelous acts that God has done in my life, a novel will not be enough …

… that’s why I am realizing now that perhaps God’s purpose for my life is to comfort others, and testify His deeds, as I experience them first-hand. Kaya siguro madalas din akong nasasabak sa mga “challenges” na feeling ko beyond my capacity … but no, God knows each one of us from head to toe and He indeed knows our limitations and capacity, and He will never give us burden that He know we won’t be able to carry :)

I haven’t read Bo’s book yet, but since I experience God’s miracle of finding a way to meet my “God’s Will”, I must say and testify that its true - that is, God will find a way for 2 persons to meet up and know each other. The only problem is sometimes, we as human beings, are so insensitive to God’s call :)

  22. ems

opps Shari for the double post, you can delete the first comment… hehehe kala ko d lang nag reflect *wink*

    shari,

  25. ethel

    Halo Shari muzta na?!
    wierd ka nga hehhehe
sana OK na pakiramdam mo mwaahhh
at sana mag enjoy ka sa araw ng mga puso :) Hugz!!!

  26. Marcelle

Omigosh. I also have an R defect!

  27. Brittney

7 books per day? That’s truly impressive. I wish I could do that, considering it just about killed me reading a book a week for American Novel last year.

That’s a shame that you can’t pronounce your own name. Sometimes I think it would be better if we could be named later in life, once our parents knew a little about us.

  28. Chau

Wow, I hope you’re feeling better now!

Anyways, hehe about reading blogs and commenting. I know what you mean, I hate comments like that also.

  29. Melanie

    I have a -”th”— defect. o_o

Hehe. Well I hope you get better soon x_x And I want to hear you imitate those people xD

  30. Darwin

I’m laughing at your meditation practice. In my case I can’t meditate properly if I’m thinking of something else! Hahaha.

PS: I like you previous theme better.

  31. Anne

Hope you get well soon! *sends flowers and chocolate cookies*

I like that excerpt. I have a couple of Bo Sanchez’s books of the same title but I never even bothered opening them. Maybe it’s about time I read it. ^^

  32. Shari

    Ate Rach: Thank you. =)

Ate Ems: Actually, Mr. Bo Sanchez said that there is not only one right person for you. God provides the whole world, a number of people, who would be right for you, but you’re the one who’s going to have to choose. Either way, you’d still be happy with whomever you’ve chosen.

Dyei: Hey, maybe if my mom’s done with the book (maybe after 10 years haha), I can lend my copy to you. =)

    Ethel: Bwahaha, I will. *winks*

Marcelle: Haha, unnoticeable naman ata on your part. ;)

Brittney: I agree. Parents have a way of choosing the wrong things for us, haha!

Chau: Who doesn’t? They also say that, but then they do it themselves. *shrugs*

Melanie: Way to go for defects! =D

Darwin: Aaccck! If I don’t think of something, I’ll fall asleep. Anyway, this is a premade, and I like it. =p My previous theme has been having issues with blockquotes in Internet Explorer, and I’m too lazy to fix it.

Anne: Chocolate cookies! Homemade? =D Yeah, yeah, read.

  33. ems

hmm well that’s Bo’s opinion. But I believe that God provides the best for you, He might give you several options (and in fact the Lord does) but there is still one from the rest that stands out .. and that one is your “God’s Will”

  34. ems

hmm well that’s Bo’s opinion. But I believe that God provides the best for you, He might give you several options (and in fact the Lord does) but there is still one from the rest that stands out .. and that one is your “God’s Will”. I believe that because it did happen to me .. and a living testimony to it… :)

  35. Shari

Ate Ems: Hmmm…I just think it’s too early to conclude anything between two people, or you and your bebe, for example. I’m not saying that eventually, both of you will go your separate ways, but I’m also not forgetting the fact that that might happen. Anything can, might, and will happen. Remember, a lot of people thought the same thing you do, but when they’re together na for years, everything went haywire. I just think that if you’re with someone you love, cherish the moment - the present. It’s too early to conclude the future, that you two will be together forever.
