Naked Day, Yo!
And because I haven’t written anything that spells g-e-e-k-y in a long while (because I’m too busy spelling s-e-x and h-o-r-n-y), let me just invite everyone to participate in the upcoming CSS Naked Day.
Yes, yes! I’m encouraging you to get naked and show the world what you’ve got!
Uhm, okay. Put on your clothes, damnit! I said CSS Naked Day! CSS! Cascading Style Sheets!
On April 5, a lot of brave and gutsy web designers from all over the world will strip their websites off their visual presentation and present them in all their naked glory. In short, no stylesheets. That’s right! No styles whatsoever to control the thingamajigs in their websites! No design! You’ll see every participating website in its most vulnerable and simplest form!
The purpose of this annual CSS Naked Day is to promote web standards, semantic markup, and good code hierarchy. Plain and simple. This also tests if your website is functional and looks nice even without any style applied to it.
I’ve been doing the proper preparations for the said day when Aja reminded me about the big event a couple of days ago. He has also written a plugin for WordPress-powered blogs that “strips out XML/HTML stylesheet references, embedded and inline stylesheets, and provides a function to determine whether it is the 5th of April on the recommended worldwide 48-hour CSS Naked Day period”.
The only problem I’m having with my site is that I’ve put the navigation in the sidebar. It means that visitors have to go through the main content to click on the navigation links. A skip-to link does the work as of now, but I wonder if I can manage to put the navigation before the main content to make it easier for people who use text-only browsers such as myself (well, sometimes — I use Lynx, by the way) to browse around the site. Acccckkkk, nevermind! I’m just going to put things back in proper order (again) the next time I make a new theme. After 5 years, maybe?
So yes, I’m stripping off on the 5th of April. Wanna get naked with me? ![]()
wala akong load. poor me eh. so i can’t reply to your text messages.
hay. I’ll just send emails. lol.
Woaaah. You’re gonna strip your blog naked too? I think I’ll just be a spectator and take a look at all the naked blogs that day! Hahaha. Including yours. Good luck!
I guess I’m too scared to mess up my blog since I’m a mess with Wordpress as well. Eeek.
LOL, I don’t think my site would look nice without stylesheets… Haha… I don’t even want to check… I’m sure it looks u-g-l-y! LOL.
There is something amiss here… with me recently writing “I’m plugging these people” and you with your Naked Day entry. LOL, clearly… many people are just not getting enough sex these days. It’s like an epidemic.
OhMyBlogSex. Interesting concept. If only you could get your blog to vibrate.
Alright, I’ll stop here. I’m just talking smack crazy right now. (I’m feeling the effects of my big lunch.)
I’m definetly participating, lol
But thanks for the link to the plugin, might be useful!
Btw, left a reply to your comment on my page ;P
I’m in! - You will also have to scroll for my navigation but I don’t care about the lazy on that day.
nah, i`ll pass on this one. I would skinny dip with anyone though. haha.
JJ: Be my guest.
Juice: But I want to see how messy your site could get! Haha!
Chau: Want me to check for you? Hehe!
FruityOaty: I’m not getting enough sex because I’ve never had it.
*gasps* Damn! I just ruined my reputation!
Massa P, don’t leave us please? :shake;
Malin: I’m game!!!
Nan: Hmm, should’ve thought of that. I mean, some of those who are lazy to strip out their stylesheets are probably also lazy to build a functional website.
Nina: With me?
Have you tried the div less style? This is more clear.
Good luck.
your first proposition sounded quite appealing
“The Queer Chef pimped me hereâ€
Wow, that naked css day sounds interesting. My site would probably look HORRIBLE without it though, haha.
Hey Shari, semantically speaking, the navigation is SUPPOSED to come after the content.
Your skip to link is more than fine.
hi shari!! woo.. i haven’t tried removing my stylesheet. HAHAHAHA! but i’ve seen some blogs before joined that naked day thing. hehe! ok naman ung mga blog nila.
gudlak na lang sau!
i’m not joining the stripping~ LOL. it’s not that I don’t want to, I just don’t have the time. huuuuu~ effin corporate slave~
Too bad I’ll be out of town that day otherwise I’m definitely strippin’ down.
hey! i missed you! hehe..
sorry wasnt able to drop by that often na..
no css?? what will it look like kaya? hala…hehe..
hey, can you teach me how to make yung contact form? yung tulad nung sau, hehe inggitera.
naked css!?!? hmm.. i’m not joining.. hehe!! mizyuh te shari!!
that’s a challenge for me though.. but yea,, goodluck to your site being naked! LOL. oh well, i saw your previous entries too. hhmm.. that ohmibod is so uhm… i was actually laughing when i saw the “boston” thing in their site. LOL. oh well, take care and goodluck with that on april 5!
Hi. We sent you the e-Ticket for the Philippine Blog Awards 2007. Please show this at the registration table. You will then be given two entrance tickets: one for you and another for your guest. If you have not received your e-Ticket or have any questions please email philippineblogawards [at] gmail [dot] com. Best of luck to you and your blog. See you there!
omg nko palpak site ko without it yta eh.. haha nakkloka.
hindi ako pwede sa ganyan, gusto yung sarili ko ang naked! hehe..
pasensya na, busy talaga eh, kaya di makapunta, goodluck ulet! balato!
Myepinoy: OhMi!
Honestly, I couldn’t do without
divtags because this layout is full of them to control the position of everything — main content, sidebars, etc. Well, I can try — if I had only one sidebar, I could probably pull if off. Next theme, maybe?Xoussef: Then by all means, do it.
Get naked, yo!
Britney: Your site’s gonna look naked (provided that CSS does all the work for styling your page). That’s not really…bad…I think….
Amanda: I know…But I found this survey with “preconceived notions/expectations” of page source order and accessibility for beginners to experienced users of text-only browsers and screen readers. I’m just leaning on to the safest side, I guess.
I still code mainly for people.
Ariane: Sumali ka na! Experience din ito ahaha!
Keysi: Then let’s strip tomorrow lololol!
Anne (immortalised): You can still do. The plugin Aja made automatically does everything so you never have to worry a thing.
Jenny: Depends on your browser’s default CSS. I’d be having a white background, Times New Roman font size 12, ugly blue links, the works…LOL! I’ll give you the plugin.
Anne:
Hey! Take care po!
Sandra: Thanks! Oist ikaw ha, under 18 ka pa pumunta ka na dun lolol!
LA: Spaaaaaaaaam! Nyahaha!
Aisha: Hehe patay tayo dyan
Dotep: Asus. Magyosi ka na lang haha! Busy? Anong busy? Biyernes naman haaaa!
ugh. times new roman. ugh.
i’m giving away my invites to the PBA since i’m probably not going, i’m holding a mini contest sa site ko, baka may kilala ka na gusto pumunta
good luck!
I want to do it too! My site looks so empty without the CSS styling. But I’m game!
ohmigod. I don’t wanna try it! My site barely lives with its colors! I don’t even wanna try it. It might lead to a trauma.
Yay! Sure, sure! We’ll all get nekkid with you! I remember this event last year but I was too late to participate. Thanks for the info.
Fafa Jorge: Nooo.
Come!
Ellie: Yay! Mine too, actually haha!
Enzo: Lolol oh c’mon, it’ll be an adventure hehe!
Yoru: Yay! Better have your partner beside you while you’re at it haha!
Oooohh… that is interesting> I wanna see misteryosa.com in the raw flesh. Whooo hooo!
I think, I wouldn’t be able to strip of, not because I’m conservative (who is nowadays), but because my blog doesn’t have a nice weenie to show. hehe
Sweet! In that case, I’m in. But then I won’t see my site in its naked glory.
I wonder what my site would look like without css? Yeah, U-G-L-Y! hahah
goodluck with stripping your site.
takecare!
Darwin: Wahaha! You’re not going to see boobies here, I’m afraid. lol!
Anne: I’ll take a screenshot for you haha!
Shai: Awww, malay mo diba hehe!
Isley: You’re not joining us?
Good luck sa PBA tom!
ahihi seryoso ka talaga jan sa standardization of website designs ah
ahihihi
First let me explain myself…!
A) I’d forget
B) (I’m ignoring the fact there’s a script which makes my point A irrelevant)
C) My site would be disastrous without CSS
D) No joke, I pretty much did the whole thing with CSS
E) Good luck! Hahah I’ll be stopping by April 5!!
F) (If I remember!)
G) No I have no idea why I’m doing alphabetical points.
Oh wow… this css day sounds scarryyy
It sounds like you might be able to make your sebsite work, but of course… I can’t make it work at all! Lol… it would take too much time for me.
So then stripping your site of css, does that mean you have to ensure taht your site still looks the same without css though?
Well, good luck for that, remind me to come back!!
I think I will link you if that’s ok with you, we’re by each other fairly often ^-^
Totally doing this, I missed out last year. I look forward to seeing Misteryosa naked
Yay Risa is back and blogging!!!
How are thee, Shari? lol~ It’sbeen so long since I’ve gone.
Anyways, that’s an awesome event coming up… baring naked your own weblog of its design.
I wish I could participate but then me and my family are going to Baguio around that time. So yea… maybe next time for me.
Screenshot your naked site to show off to me all right?
May I answer some things in behalf of Shari?
@Paddy: The point of removing CSS for one day is to show that you are using semantic markup on your site. So, if your site is still readable without styles, then it is well done.
@Tee: No website done with CSS will look the same after stripping it off of its stylesheets. But, the designer must make sure s/he used correct HTML to markup the code so it will still be readable after removing the design itself.
BTW, Shari, thanks for plugging my plugin. I just hope it really works. I’ve just tested it once on my blog on a different date, then I’ve just changed it to the 5th of April before publishing it.
[edit]To everybody who has already downloaded my plugin, please update to the latest revision: v.1.0.1 as there has been a minor change in the regex used to detect embedded stylesheets. Sorry and thank you![/edit]
Wow thats a very cool idea but NOOO!! i cant do it. Haha. My website cant be naked. xDDD Good luck and have fun being naked though! haha.
Ms. Aileen Apolo: Oh wow, Google PH visited me!
Thanks!
Heneroso: Shemps naman!
Paddy & Tee: Hehe, Aja responded to you both
Tracey: No boobies, I swear!
Theresa: Welcome back! Yay! I’ve missed you!
Aja: Will test it on localhost.
Michelle: Hehe, you can do it!
No can do!:P
